| Slow Time Is Strategic Time |
| By: Mike Cardinal |
Use your "extra" time and human resources for a brighter future
Whether frantically busy or mercilessly slow, anytime is the right time to have and follow a clear vision and strategy. Practically speaking, however, a slower season provides an excellent opportunity. Businesses can employ their valuable, experienced, talented people to vision or revision their future.
Using vision, strategic plan and continuous improvement processes are the way out of economic slow downs. It is like the proverb of buying low and selling high. Capitalizing on the pause in the action can put you on top of the action as business picks up.
Consider using a consultant to give your business access to new ideas and to streamline business processes. A consultant also serves as an accountability point just like a delivery deadline. The improvements tend to get made in time to report back at the next consultant’s meeting. Another advantage of a consultant is the temporary cost involved while attaining long term enhancement of the business.
How can your business benefit from a clearly focused vision or revision?
COMPANY MEANS PEOPLE
Your business makes profits, People make your business
People come together to form a company that provides a product or service. The ensuing team building and staff meetings may not be your business but they make your business possible.
Rick Williams of Williams Food Equipment hired Mike Cardinal of Cardinal Counselling and Consulting for just such a purpose. Williams says the greatest benefit was having an effective meeting without the burden of planning and running the meeting.
Williams and Cardinal coordinated the expectations and execution of the half day. Each brought their own expertise to create a successful and productive time for all of the staff. The typical sole proprietor or president brings the expertise of the business; that is the content and leadership of a staff gathering. A consultant can bring the people processes to effectively focus the content and energize the team.
Could delegating some of the people-work in your company give you greater freedom to focus on your business success?
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
It can make or break the bottom line
Could better listening skills help your company? Could conflict resolution skills increase your bottom line? Could prejudice, ethnic or gender tensions be sabotaging your productivity?
A consultant can assist your company with these kinds of topics. If the people who make your business happen are more skilled in their relationships then it follows that the company as a whole will fair better.
Two main factors motivate businesses to make the extra investment in a consultant. One, it addresses the energy and time lost on miscommunication and conflicts. Two, studies prove the extra attention given to employees is so appreciated that productivity and profitability increase as a result.
